Sorority Rush FAQ

What do you wear during sorority rush?

Sorority rush outfits depend on a few key factors, such as your school’s location and Greek life presence, the round of rush, and your own personal preferences. Typically, sorority rush dresses include preppy and highly feminine styles that are comfortable enough for all day wear.

How many outfits do you need for sorority rush?

Sorority rush lasts anywhere from 4 days to over a week long, so the minimum amount of outfits you need to prepare is 5 (one for each day, plus a back up). A good rule of thumb is to have at least one backup option for every 3 days of rush, so if your sorority recruitment lasts 6 days, plan for 8 outfits total (6 regular plus 2 back ups).

How do you dress for the different rounds of rush?

Dressing for the different rounds of rush takes planning and consideration, as the rounds become more formal in event and dress code throughout the week. The first rounds of rush, including Open House, are more casual than the later rounds of rush, like Preference. To dress for the different rounds of sorority rush, wear your more casual, sundress-like options at the beginning of recruitment, and move to your more formal cocktail dresses towards the end of rush.

What should you avoid wearing to sorority rush?

Due to the long, often warm, and tradition-led days of sorority rush, you should avoid styles that are uncomfortable or too revealing. By avoiding silk and satin dresses, you decrease your chances of developing sweat stains or water marks throughout the day. Avoid plunging necklines and high leg slits, as they are inappropriate for sorority recruitment.

Where can you find sorority rush dresses?

You can find sorority rush dresses in boutiques, online retailers, or occasion wear driven stores. Checking out your local boutiques near your campus can be a good way to see which styles are popular at your college for sorority recruitment. Finding sorority rush dresses online can help you find sorority rush dresses that are more unique and fit your personal style.
