2026 Sorority Rush Tips: Dresses That Will Help Make A Great First Impression

The Most Asked Questions of 2026 Sorority Rush

Sorority rush week is one of the most magical, unforgettable weeks of college for many girls. It’s a marathon full of introductions, learning about philanthropy and sisterhood, and figuring out where you belong. While prepping for rush can feel like a daunting task, we’re here to help. We’ve compiled a list of your most asked rush questions, so you can feel calm and confident before the week even begins- plus, we’ll help you get started on your rush outfits, so go ahead and check that worry off your list.

Q:“How do I make a good first impression during sorority rush?”

A: During rush, you won’t be making one first impression- you’ll be making several. The first round of rush is Letters Day, or  Open House. Over the course of a day or two, you’ll be introduced to each chapter as a PNM (potential new member), and will talk to a handful of the girls at each house. It’s the casual “getting to know each other” day, and often mimics speed dating.

Since each house is getting flooded with PNMs all day, it's important to make a good, memorable first impression with everyone you meet. One way to make a lasting impression is to share a quick, funny story about something from your personal life. This will help you stand out from the rest of the potentials  by giving the sisters something fun and niche to remember you by.

Confidence is always key when it comes to introducing yourself. Even though nerves will likely hit throughout the day, it’s important to breathe and remember that it’s totally normal to feel overwhelmed and anxious during rush. Remind yourself that every girl in a sorority has gone through the same thing that you are- if they can get through it, so can you. Confidence comes from the inside out, but we always believe that the mantra “look good, feel good” is a tried and true classic for a reason. Wearing a cute outfit that you feel comfortable in can help you relax, allowing your personality to shine. Since round one is the most casual part of rush week, we suggest wearing something that’s classy and comfy, enhancing your personality. The Suki Twist Babydoll Mini Dress in white or rose is the perfect round one choice, mixing the casual, elegant, fun, and girly vibes- just like sorority rush week.

*Round One Tip: Take notes throughout the day to help you remember each house and the girls you meet. It will be a long and busy day, so it can all become a blur! Review these notes as the week goes on to help jog your memory and differentiate the chapters.

Q: “What dresses are girls wearing to rush?”

A: Due to the traditional nature of sorority rush, it’s best to stick to the dress codes that have been established throughout the years. Rely on dresses that are classy and not too revealing, while still being modern, trendy, and unique enough to make you stand out in a sea of PNMs. Rush week is a marathon, so prioritizing dresses that are comfortable enough to take you throughout the day will be a life saver. Each round differs in activity level and formality, so having a solid outfit planned for each day of the week will help you stay on track and on theme. Typically, the dresses that the PNM girlies are wearing during rush follow a few consistencies. The whole week is based around sisterhood, so rush outfits tend to be highly feminine, light in color (think white, pink, yellow, and light blue), and often involve ruffles, floral details, lace, or chiffon. As the week progresses, the dress code becomes increasingly formal. It’s a good idea to always be a slight step above the dress code, rather than wearing something that’s a bit too casual.

Q: “How do I dress for the different rounds of rush?”

A: While each school can differ slightly in the daily names and activities, they all follow the same four-round layout. Most schools stick to one day per round, but some larger schools like to spread the first two rounds over three or four days. Round one is Letter Day, or Open House, and is the most casual day, both in activity and dress. Think easy, girly, brunch outfit. Round two is Philanthropy Day, or Service Day, and is still on the casual side, though a bit more formal than round one. Round three is House Tours, or Sisterhood Day, and the dress code is elevated, nearing nice dinner attire. The fourth round is Preference Day, and is the most formal, similar to a wedding guest dress code.

Since the first two rounds focus more on introductions and getting to know the chapters, the dresses tend to be shorter and simpler, while still maintaining a classy feel. The Mellie Romper Mini Dress is a fun and chic choice that isn’t too over-the-top or understated, and is always a highly complimented piece- a.k.a. A great conversation starter! For the girly girls that are rushing, you’ll love  the Abby Gingham Bow Strap Mini Dress. Available in white, yellow, and light blue, it’s the perfect airy dress that doesn’t try too hard, staying memorable and playful with bows straps adorning the shoulders. A slightly more elevated choice is the Fleur Lace Halter Mini Dress in white or butter yellow- it’s feminine and trendy, and incredibly flattering to help increase your confidence.

The third round of rush is focused on sisterhood and what it means to be part of a chapter. This round offers a closer look at the daily life of the sisters, and encourages deeper conversations about what sisterhood means to each individual. Since you’ll only be visiting two or three houses this round, it’s a great time to wear something that’s approaching, or perhaps right under, the semi-formal category. You’re going to want to wear your most impressive, formal piece in the fourth round, so use Sisterhood Day to showcase your second place dress. To nail that middle ground, we  recommend the Alix Twist Front Bubble Mini Dress, which is as classy as it is unique. For the lace lovers, the Karlie Lace Off-The-Shoulder Puff Sleeve Mini Dress is a great, not-too-formal choice for round three.

Round four is Preference Day (commonly nicknamed Pref Night), and is the most formal and meaningful day of rush. You will revisit your top houses for deep, often emotional conversations focused on the chapters’ traditions and individual members’ personal experiences. This is the round that the girls tend to go all out, embracing a true semi-formal to formal dress code. While you’re not required to wear a maxi dress, you will see them more in this round than any other time throughout the week. Our favorite option is the Sarila Ruffle Strap Maxi Dress. It’s beautiful and elegant, with just the right amount of flare. The cascading ruffle straps in the front and back make the piece memorable, and it’s available in the trendiest butter yellow and light pink hues.

Q: “What’s the difference between rush and bid day outfits?”

A: Bid day is the grand finale of rush week. The hardest part is over, and now it’s time to party with your new sisters! While rush outfits are fully on the shoulders of PNMs, bid day outfits are typically up to each chapter. After receiving a bid, most sororities will provide matching t-shirts to both the new and old members. Not only does this help kickstart the sisterhood dynamic, it also makes the celebration extra photo-worthy!

Since you won’t know which chapter will be your new home on the morning of bid day, a good rule of thumb is to dress in cute, comfortable neutrals that will go with any t-shirt and accessories that your new sisters might provide. We recommend a simple white or blush tank and a pair of shorts or a skort. You’ll be partying all day, so make sure to wear something that’s functional and comfy! We think the Stacy Ruffle Mini Skort or the Dasha Micro Mini Denim Skort are excellent, easily matchable options for all day wear.

Q: “How many dresses do I need for sorority rush?”

A: To recap everything that we’ve discussed today, let’s do some math- if there’s four rounds of rush, and some rounds last a day or two, PLUS a bid day (that is partially out of the PNM’s hands), how many dresses do you need for rush week?

While six rush outfits and one bid day outfit could be enough, we think that in this instance, more IS more, and the more the merrier. Bringing seven or eight rush outfits will provide you with some much needed peace of mind during the otherwise chaotic week. That way, if one outfit were theoretically to get ruined by a spill or tear (knock on wood), or if you just aren’t feeling that great in your fit on the day of, a backup dress (or two!) can do wonders for your mental and emotional health, helping you avoid a serious freakout.
