What is bid day?
Bid day marks the conclusion of fraternity and sorority recruitment. This is when potential new members receive their official invitations, called “bids”, to join a chapter. This ceremony is followed by parties thrown by each chapter, celebrating and welcoming their new members.
When does bid day happen?
Bid day occurs on the final day of sorority or fraternity rush. Most universities’ rush duration spans 4 to 8 days, with some campuses expanding recruitment throughout 2 weeks. Bid day follows the most formal round of rush, often referred to as preference night.
What should I wear on bid day?
Bid day outfits typically consist of easy dresses, skirts and skorts, or rompers. Most sororities will have matching shirts available for all new and old members to wear during their celebrations, following the bid reveal. You can eliminate any discomfort or stress by ensuring that your bid day often can be comfortable worn under any t-shirt you may receive.
How long is bid day?
Bid day can span anywhere from 2 to 5 hours, with some post-reveal celebrations lasting further into the night. Following the reveal, 1 to 2 hours of greetings and photo opportunities will take place on a lawn, before another 2+ hour long event hosted by each individual chapter. The length of your bid day depends on what time your university’s reveal begins, and how long your new chapter hosts their celebration.
Can you get multiple bids during sorority rush?
In formal sorority recruitment, you will only receive one bid at the end of the process. This bid is determined by a matching process, where you and your future chapter must agree to a pairing. It is also possible to receive no bids, though you will be notified privately prior to the public bid day reveal.
